Red Flags for Brides

Red Flags. 🚩

We know ‘em and we don’t love them. They show up in every corner of our lives: people we date, jobs, friends. But there are also a few red flags to look out for when you’re buying your wedding gown!

• When you’re looking for a gown by a certain designer, be sure to check out the store locator on their website! Some may say they can get any designer for you, but that is definitely false! They must sign a contract with the designer to be able to order gowns from them, if not, you might end up with a fake or used gown!

• Picture this scenario: you really want a strapless gown but you’re loving some with straps. When you ask your stylist if it can be made strapless, they should be looking into the construction of the dress, how the straps attach and if the back is too low for them to be removed. If you’re being guaranteed any and all gowns can be made strapless, they probably just want your sale and aren’t concerned with your feelings or alterations costs!

• Understand sizing and don’t let them fool you! What we mean is, if you’re somewhere that’s trying to sell you a gown that is way too big {or small}, it’s a big red flag! Your bridal size is going to be about 2 sizes bigger than your current pant size. If you’re a size 8 in jeans, you’ll probably be a size 12 in a bridal gown! But if you’re a size 10 in jeans and saying yes to a size 22 gown, run! Always look at the size chart and measurements with your stylist so you know you’re getting the size you need!

• Our last red flag is pricing and discounts! Designers require stores to price gowns at MSRP or above. If you go somewhere that is offering you a major discount if you order the first day, they probably hiked up the price of the gown to be able to offer that kind of discount as a way to pressure you into buying. Please know SBB always respects MSRP pricing but we do offer a $100 first day discount, should you find your dream gown at your first appointment!
