How did Danielle and Brian first meet?
“We met our sophomore year at Purdue University Northwest. I had just transferred from UIndy and had applied to be a Campus Ambassador in an effort to meet people and make friends. He had also applied to be a Campus Ambassador and we were hired around the same time. We met at orientation and I was scheduled to work my first shift with him.”
We call that fate! How did Brian pop the question?
“Brian recreated my favorite moments from our relationship. He brought me a dozen red roses, took me to dinner at Giordanos (where we had our first date), and hid the ring in the glove box of his car just like he had hid my birthday gift a few years earlier. He asked if I could get him a glasses wipe out of the glove box and when I opened it, the ring box fell out. He proposed while Perfect by Ed Sheeran played.”
Was it a surprise or did she know it was coming?
“I had a feeling when he asked if I wanted to go to Giordanos that he was going to propose. But, as the day went on and dinner came and went, I thought that I was wrong and he wasn't going to propose. In fact, when he asked for the glasses wipe, I was actually so annoyed that he hadn't proposed that I didn't even bother to take my seatbelt off and was being kind of sassy.”
Let’s talk dress shopping!
“Going in I was a little nervous, I had tried on dresses once before and the experience did not go well. When I got to Something Blue, Colleen was very friendly and I felt comfortable right away. I was super excited to try on some of the beautiful gowns. Each of my bridesmaids chose a dress for me to try on and I had my eye on an Allure Cinderella dress I had seen on the Something Blue tiktok. Unfortunately, the Cinderella dress wasn't the one. I tried on the dress my sister, Amina, picked for me which was also from the Allure Disney collection and was a Belle dress. It was gorgeous, but again not the one. Then, Colleen said she had another Allure Cinderella dress that was similar to the Belle dress. I tried it on and it was the one!”
How did Danielle know her dress was "the one"?
“The second I looked in the mirror, I teared up. I felt like a princess which is how I always wanted to feel on my wedding day. I loved how it fit and it had pockets! When I walked out, all my girls teared up and I could not stop smiling the entire time I was wearing the dress.”
What was her favorite part of the wedding planning process?
“Sitting down with my partner and discussing our vision for the big day. We each came up with three words that we wanted to sum up our wedding. Focusing on us and what we wanted made the planning process easier than I expected!”
What about her least favorite part?
“Family members voicing their opinions. I am a people pleaser so having to continuously tell people no was hard for me.”
Looking back, what is Danielle’s favorite moment from her wedding?
“Our first dance. Brian isn't really a dancer so we haven't danced a lot in our relationship, but when we had been dating for 6 months (we had been together almost 7 years when we got married) he said he wanted our first dance song to be Truly Madly Deeply. We danced to that song and it was wonderful. We laughed and talked and it was just an amazing moment.”
What is the best piece of advice Danielle can give brides-to-be who are currently planning their own big day?
“Things are going to go wrong, it's going to happen. Throughout the wedding planning process, I hated when people would say that to me, but it's true. There may be last minute hiccups, for example: my tablecloths didn't show up on time, but once you start walking down the aisle nothing else will matter.”
Congratulations, Danielle + Brian!!
